Hello again

Hi there. Long time no talk.

I’ll spare you all my excuses but basically I got a little overwhelmed between trying to keep up with a weekly blog and daily Bookstagram. Writing is not my strong point. I think that’s why I like Instagram so much is because of the small captions. A picture says a thousand words an all that. I really want to push myself to get better at writing so I’m going to give this another shot. I’ll probably only post biweekly but my love of talking about books may allow me to post more.

On the subject of books, when you read someone’s review or post about a book what do you like to see? Do you like to actually see the blurb/synopsis or a general overview? Do you like spoilers (with given warning of course) or just a vague outline of what to expect?

Since I’ve last been on here I have gotten some good reading done. Some highlights:

  • Berserker by Emmy Laybourne
This story revolves around Hanne who is a descendent of the Viking Gods and has been given a curse/gift (depending on how you look at it) of Viking raiding powers, the Nytte. Traveling from their home in Norway to the Wild West of America, Hanne and her siblings look to find their uncle for help on controlling their unique powers.
I had never heard of the Nytte before and loved the concept of the different Viking raiding gifts being passed down throughout the bloodlines. While this could have technically been ended with one book I am thrilled there will be two more books. I’d really love to see the different Nytte and how they use or accept their gifts. In the beginning I do wish there had been a little more explanation on the consequences of using other Nytte besides Berserker. I ended up rereading some to see if I missed it but it wasn’t really explained until later in the story. The story takes you on a grand adventure and the sweet romance was enjoyable. Not exactly insta romance but it was a fated romance, neither types would have deterred me from the story though. The siblings have complicated and loving relationships that is realistic and familiar to anyone with siblings. I highly enjoyed the whole book. I think other readers who enjoy action, adventure, and mythology will fall in love with this story as I have.
I am already dying to get my hands on book two, Ransacker!
  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
If you’re even considering reading this book, stop what your doing and go read it right now. This was a fun and sweet read about coming of age and finding your own path. I can’t believe how long it took me to pick it up but I absolutely loved listening to the audiobook. The narrator does a great job and really makes this enjoyable. I loved it so much I want a physical copy as well for my collection.
  • Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
Why did I wait so long to read this?! It was fantastic! I’ll admit I totally thought I had it figured out early on but turned out I was wrong! I think that’s one of the best praises for a mystery novel, being surprised at the murderers identity.                   Audrey Rose was a lovely little spit fire and great role model for girls. Thomas is a swoon worthy Sherlock type that I can’t get enough off! I can not wait to see what they get up to in the next book!
  • Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Why yes I did just read this book within 24 hours and yes I am kicking myself for not reading it sooner. On the plus side I can now binge read the whole series!                    This really was an enchanting read. I could barely put the book down. The story follows Alina Starkov as she goes from being an orphan to a map maker in the Second Army and then on to Os Alta to learn more about herself. While the plot could be said to be generic ya fantasy I believe the world and magic building gives this tale its uniqueness that really sets it apart. I am thrilled to continue on with the series!
  • Come Sundown by Nora Roberts
** spoiler alert ** New favorite. Hands down. I thought I loved The Obsession but this book surpassed it. How is it that Nora can write all these books and they just keep getting better?!?                  This story revolves around the disappearance of Alice, how the family moved on, and the chaos of her return. Bodine (yes that is the main females name and yes it took me forever to get use to it) is the type of character I’d love to be but in all honesty not realistic, too perfect. Callen is a sexy cowboy that’s adds the perfect amount of romance through the story. Be prepared with tissues throughout the book though, it stirred up a lot of emotions for me but that’s usually a sign of a good book in my opinion. The mystery was pretty decent but not completely surprising. There was a good red herring where it could have gone a couple ways and still been believable.
Overall I loved this book and even though I checked it out from the library I plan to buy it to add to my collection.

Basically if you didn’t catch on I’ve read a good handful of books that I’m kicking myself for not reading sooner. Good news is now I have a plethora of books I’m excited to read!

For the month of November my goal is to try and read more books that I own compared to library books and to work on finishing up some series that I’m in the middle of. My book clubs theme is historical fiction which works out perfectly since there are a few books on my self that fit the theme and my personal goals.

Any goals for your November reads? Any books you kicked yourself for not reading sooner? Chat with me! I’d love to hear your thoughts!

As much as I’d like to be a professional Blogger I have to admit I am very lazy about it. I can not bring myself to pre-write content and have it scheduled to post. I almost always end up putting it off till the day of to write a post and publish it. I think that’s why I love the WWW Wednesdays so much, it a specific day with specific relevant topics. Last week I never got around to posting anything. We had family visiting for the 4th of July. It was a great little visit. We went book shopping, Goodwill hunting, and to the beach! I also joined a small Read-A-Thon hosted on Instagram for the first week of July. You can read more about it here!

Dexter in the Dark

I listened to the on audio book as I have the last two Dexter books. This was not nearly as good as the first two. It was very introspective as where the Dark Passenger came from, why it had suddenly left from Dexter’s mind, and if it would come back. The ending was abrupt. I have a few questions that I feel like should have been answered and then when Dexter’s Dark Passenger does return I found it to be the silliest reason ever. I wont spoil it on here but if you ask I’ll probably tell you. I’m adding the next installment to my tbr list but I doubt I’ll get to it anytime soon.

The Girl Who Chased the Moon

Sarah Addison Allen is an auto buy author for me and although I do own this book I borrowed the audio book from my library to listen along with Fresh Baked Books before they came out with their newest Podcast reviewing the book and baking a Hummingbird Cake. If you haven’t checked them out you really should! Allen writes such great tales about family and relationships with a touch of magical realism.

The Last Wish: Introducing the Witcher

This book is slightly out of my normal reading zone but I am loving it! My husband plays the Xbox game and when he found out it was based off of a book he bought it for me for my birthday to read. I started it on Monday and am over half way through so far. I honestly didn’t expect to like it as much as I have. I do watch my husband play the game occasionally so I had an idea of what to expect, this high fantasy doesn’t always keep my attention, while I’m only on the first book I’ve yet to get to where he is on the game so I know there is a lot of stuff to come.

Alpha and Omega

This is the prequel to Cry Wolf, the first book in the spin off series starring Charles and Anna. I love this couple. I had actually read this novella before but I was needing something to listen to while cutting grass so I borrowed the available audiobook from my library’s Overdrive app. Does your library have Overdrive? If so you really need to check it out it’s super convenient! After listening to this I really want to catch up on the series. I’ve already requested Fair Game as an audio book to listen to before picking Dead Heat. Gosh I love this series! Definitely my favorite werewolf series of all time.

Lover Reborn

This is book #10 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There have been a few books in this series that I’ve been wary to start, this book included. The synopsis just doesn’t catch me but for every book I have read I have absolutely loved them. This is Tohrment’s story and after Wellsie, whom I loved, I cant picture him with anyone else. I guess we’ll see, J.R.Ward has yet to disappoint me in this series!

I have a few other books on hand to give a shot but I’m not quiet sure what I’m in the mood for just yet. Happy Reading!

Hello, hello! I know this is a day late but this past weekend has been full of ups and downs. We visited family for my nieces 5th birthday (up) and are currently on day SIX of no A/C (down). Thankfully its not full summer here yet with only highs in the upper 80’s but with all the humidity its still not a cake walk. The people looked at it yesterday and apparently ordered the part needed but are claiming it wont be in until next Thursday. Needless to say we are now calling around to other places to find find the part and do it ourselves. You would think that paying for a warranty going on our third year and this is the first problem we’ve had would maybe give them the incentive to help more but they really just don’t seem to care. Bleh.

Romancing Mister Bridgerton
If you love historical romances and haven’t read this series yet, you are missing out! This is definitely one of the top reads of the series tied with The Viscount Who Loved Me. I loved that it wasn’t an instant romance but a build up friendship to romance. Penelope has really become one of my absolute favorites women in the Bridgerton series. I’ve already got the next book on hold from the library.

The Lost Girls
Emotional. Fascinating. Heartbreaking. Uplifting.
So many emotions to describe this book. While I haven’t read many non-fiction books and the ones I have read I didn’t particularly like, this book felt like it was very well written and full of facts. This is such an amazing story of survival, of three women who were kidnapped and held for over 10 years. I enjoyed that it gave a background on all of the key people and interviews/comments from many outside people who at the time had no idea of what was going on in that house and afterwords not just from the victims but those who loved them and worked with them. I am really interested in reading more by Glatt. I really enjoyed his way of telling the story.

The Crown
This final of the series. I plan to have a full review/discussion of this book up soon. I’ll link it when I do!

The Secret Ingredients of Wishes
If you enjoy magical realism this is a book for you. I enjoyed this book as I do with almost any book involving baking. I would absolutely love to have a pie off between Catch and Rachel because seriously there is no down side. There were some elements that I wish had been expanded on but maybe there will be a sequel (fingers crossed). The thought of having the ability to grant wishes is fascinating but also we get to see how much of a burden it can be.

Dexter in the Dark
As usual I am listening to the audio book for book three in this series. This book seems to have more of a in depth exploration of the Dark Passenger. Honestly I’m not very far into it but am very intrigued by whats going on. I think my favorite part is the relationship that’s budding between Dexter and Cody.

Fear University
This book is the first in its series and was recommended to be by the owner (Nalana) of Book Scents. Nalana works with authors and creates custom candles and scents for their books. This is an urban fantasy/ paranormal romance. I cant tell you the last time I read something this unique in this genre. I am absolutely loving this book. The snark and banter is fantastic. If you enjoy this genre give it a look!

Storm of Swords
While I am technically still reading Clash of Kings (almost half way through) this was one of my birthday presents that finally came in the mail this week. Even though its slow going I really am loving this series!

Killing Hour
I can not get enough of some Lisa Gardner. I have this book from the library just waiting for mt to finish Fear University and pick it up! This installment has a new FBI agent, Quincy’s daughter, and I’m really excited to see whats to come from her!

The only time ever that I don’t hate putting up laundry is while listening to an audio book. I’ve found it as the perfect compromise. I finished The Angels’ Share by J.R.Ward this week. It was good, it wrapped up almost everything nicely. Which leaves me to question what in the world book 3, The Devil’s Cut, will be about. I really expected this book to be more about Maxwell since the synopsis really made him sound sinister but he didn’t show up till over halfway through the book. I can’t say that I’ll read/listen to the next book. I may just have someone tell me what happens. Any takers?

Ever have one of those moments when you are completely wrapped up in a book, lost in the emotion, and someone comes along busting your bubble and completely jarring you to reality? Yea, that happened to me while reading Dragonfly in Amber. Normally my husband doesn’t bother me when reading and he knows how much i am loving the Outlander series but for whatever reason he decided to he absolutely needed my attention at that moment. If you’ve read the book you’ll know the scene, Claire and Jamie are at the little shack at the bottom of Craigh Na Dun and he’s confessed to have been counting the days. My heart stutters just thinking it all over again. Anyways, Hubby messed with me and I got off track before finishing the rest of the book. While it was still an amazing ending I feel that build up of emotion would have given it a little something extra had i not lost it. Even through all that I did cry. Boo-hooed really. I do plan to write up a longer full review so be on the lookout for that!

Another series I am loving is Lisa Gardner’s Quincy and Rainie series. I finished The Next Accident within almost 24 hours. I’ll admit I wasn’t keen on this book’s synopsis. You learn about Quincy and his family problems from the previous books and then a year after the accident and a month after the burial, it’s being questioned as murder? Why must it be a murder? Why can’t it legit just be something bad that happened and shaped them as they are. If you can’t tell this really did bother me but I expected a great story telling so i continued on. Overall it was a really good book that I’ve come to expect from Gardner. The plot was twisty and devious, the murder was smart, and the good guys just a smidgen smarter. The next book seems to focus more on Quincy’s daughter which I thinking will be interesting. I’ve already got it placed on hold from the library!

The book club I’m with likes to read not necessarily the same book but books in the same genre, which I love. This month’s theme is Non-Fiction. I have read very few non-fiction and own only two. One I attempted to pick up and hated it, the second I haven’t tried picking up because I’m nervous I’ll hate it too. I have however read a book on Mini Farming because I absolutely love the idea of being self sufficient. I’ve had small potted gardens in the past and attempted a larger garden this year only to have Mother Nature rail against every single attempt. I’ve decided to put down the gardening gloves for this year and try again next year. My husband and I are also seriously considering raising some chickens which lead me to read Raising Chicken for Dummies.

Also with this genre I’ve started listening to The Lost Girls by John Glatt. Obviously I love crime stories so I thought of venturing into True Crime to see what that’s like. So far into listening the narrator is good, which is a big consideration for any audio book, and the story has me hooked.

On to a lighter note! Romancing Mister Bridgerton is number 4 in the Bridgertons series. I’ve really been looking forward to reading this book specifically because a book review podcast I listen to enjoyed it and made me want to read it all the more! If you like baking and books check out Fresh Baked Books, I believe they have a website, Instagram and a Pinterest page. Its two sisters who review a book and bake goodies to go along with it. So far Romancing Mister Bridgerton has been one of my favorites of the series. I have only a few chapters left so I should be able to finish it up today.

I got some more book mail this week! Birthday book four out of seven arrived yesterday! Recklessly Royal is book 2 in The Royals Series by Nichole Chase. If you can’t tell by now I also have a love for royal romances. This is one of the series where the library has book one but none of the other! It drives me crazy. I’m planning on joining a Read-A-Thon over on Instagram at the beginning of July so I’m saving this quick read for then.

According to tracking numbers I should be getting one more book in the mail today, Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. I’ve seen this book around, have heard great things about it, and absolutely love that cover! Have you read it yet?

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?

This is seriously the hardest question to answer as a book lover. I will say at the moment I just finished Dragonfly in Amber and loved it. I can not express my love of the Outlander series enough! Also recently I read The Perfect Husband by Lisa Gardner and it was an amazing crime/thriller novel!

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE THE MOST?

I don’t care for liars, cheaters, or people who steal. Neglectful parents are pretty far up there as well. Poisonous snakes are a serious fear of mine and I cant stand to eat raw onion.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD AT THE MALL?

Chick-Fil-A! Also there is a Japanese (I believe) spot that has the good chicken/shrimp rice and veggies, I love that place too.

My boys ‘reading’ to me their favorite book while my husband cooked me a birthday breakfast.

Happy Birthday to me!! Well kind of. My birthday was actually on the 11th which is one reason I didn’t finish any books this week. Another reason being my twin toddlers got a virus starting Wednesday, after separate doctor appointments and a run around to get their medicine, they finally kicked their fevers by Friday. Thankfully in time for birthday celebrations. It wasn’t a big affair but Saturday I got to meet some friends I hadn’t seen in a very long time for a day at the beach. Then on Sunday we tried a new sushi place in downtown Savannah and came home to make Homemade Strawberry Shortcake. Overall a pretty great birthday!

I feel like I have quiet a few books going on right now even though its only four. The only book I actually started this week was Dragonfly in Amber. I’m right about the halfway point I really can not express all of the feels that I get from this book. I highly recommend this series, do not let the size intimated you! The story is worth it!

“I’ll leave it to you, Sassenach,” he said dryly, “to imagine what it feels like to arrive unexpectedly in the midst of a brothel, in possession of a verra large sausage.”
Diana Gabaldon, Dragonfly in Amber

I had been listening to Ross Poldark as an audio book but it got slightly boring and was due back at the library. I have it on hold to try and finish it but so far I think I like the TV show a smidgen better. I’m also listening to the audio book The Angels’ Share. Again it was due back this weekend so it took until today for me to check it out again. I only have abut 2-3 hours left. I absolutely love J.R Ward’s series the Black Dagger Brotherhood and was hoping this series would be amazing but its only been OK. The drama and mystery are there but the romance is kind of lacking. We’ll see how I feel once I finish it.

Last but not least, Clash of Kings. I swear I will finish this book before the year is out! I doubt I’ll pick it up until I’m finished with Dragonfly in Amber though. I’m already so behind in the books it seems I have little motivation to catch up to the TV show. Who’s excited for July? This girl is!

In order to keep from repeating myself from last weeks post I’ll tell you about some of the books I’ve recently acquired. I participated in a bookish exchange through Instagram and we mailed and received our packages this past week. My new friend Tracie had me figured out perfectly. She sent me lots of Harry Potter bookish goodies. One of them being Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay!! Gosh that is a pretty book! I’m really thrilled about it!

For my birthday present my husband gave me a nice big Barnes & Noble gift card! I ordered 7 books and 1 pre-order! So far I have only received 2 of the books ordered so I’m in contact with B&N to find out whats going on there. The first book is The Queen of the Tearling. Talk about another beautiful book! I have actually read this one but I loved it and want to reread it before continuing the series. Next is The Royal Pain. This is the second book in the series of the Alaskan Royal Family. I absolutely loved the first book I borrowed from the library and plan to buy it at some point. I’ve just been wanting to continue this fun light romantic series but my library doesn’t carry books 2 and 3. How crazy is that? So this was the perfect opportunity to pick up book 2. I’ll wait to reveal the other books as they come in.

Whew. Yesterday was a whirlwind. It started out as a normal stay at home mom day with dishes and laundry but nap time came with a high fever for one of my toddlers. My husband ended up coming home early to stay with one toddler while I took the other to the doctor. When I tried to pick up the medicine the pharmacy was out and wouldn’t have it till the next day. After calling to check with the doctor if that would be ok they sent the prescription to a different pharmacy that wouldn’t have it ready for another two hours. Needless to say a busy day which is why this post is late.

Dearly Devoted Dexter
I’m seriously loving the Dexter series. He is so funny! I find saying that the oddest thing since, you know, he’s a serial killer and constantly thinks about murder. Oddly I really expected Dexter to do more killing than he has in the books so far. And as much as I love Deb she had me eye rolling quite often with her love interest here. I’m kinda hoping that doesn’t last. Using an audiobook has been great for this series and I plan to continue in that format.

Geekerella
Adorable fandom themed Cinderella retelling! All the fandom love is spot on!
Who doesn’t relate to having close friendships with people you only know through text and social media? This book gives me all the feels, from interacting with the vicious stepsister, the comfort of finding that true friend you can always geek out with, the triumphant confidence of accepting the geek within, and the absolute joy of getting the guy who loves you and all your geekiness. If you love Retellings and are apart of any fandom anywhere I think you’ll enjoy this fun quick read

Savannah Blues
I’ve owned this book for a couple months now. I picked it up at my library’s used book sale. I’m fairly certain I’ve read at least one book by Mary Kay Andrews and since moving to Savannah I’ve enjoyed picking up books set in the city. While this was a mystery and technically what I’d call a “cozy mystery” the main character, Weezie, never once had the thought to be an armature detective or that she could solve the murder before the police. Nope. She wanted nothing to do with it. That alone made this book stand out to me. The romance of the story seemed lacking, maybe it was just because they were pretty wishy-washy and only kind sorta made up at the end. From reading the synopsis of the next book it’s more about BeBe. While this was a neat quick read I doubt I’ll pick up the next one.

The Angels Share
I actually started the physical book back in March but after a couple chapters I just wasn’t feeling it at the time. I’ve started it over listening to it on audiobook this go around. I just caught up to the point where I had left off in the book. The narrator is good and does a fun southern accent for everybody. Oddly though by listening I find that certain characters annoy me much more now. I really love J. R. Wards work, she has yet to disappoint me let’s hope it stays that way!

Dragonfly in Amber
Here it is finally! I am literally only a few pages in so not much to tell at this point. I did kind of specifically pick this book up right now for a reason. My Goodreads goal for this year was 50 books and this book will mark number 50 for the year! I am really surprised I’ve already hit this goal. I think my problem is I am an overachiever. Last year my goal was 25 books and I read 50. So we’ll just have to see what this year ends up being!

Not a lot of books finished this week but a couple are still on going. I did however find a new crime series to love. The best part of my week? My husband surprised me with my birthday present early!! Barnes and Noble gift cards for the win!!! So I’ll be having some fun book mail throughout the month of June and I can not wait!

Finished This Week

The Perfect Husband

This is the first Lisa Gardner book I have read but it will not be the last!! This book was amazing. If you enjoy crime mystery thrillers check this book out!! From seeing this as a series about Quincy I did expect him to be in it more but the story captivated me so that I didn’t realize he was missing until he was finally introduced. There were moments where I gasped aloud from shock and held my breath in suspense. Overall 5 star!!

The Third Victim

My second Lisa Gardner book! This continues on in the series and has much more Quincy. We also get introduced to another main character of the series Rainie. Working together they strive to find out what really happened during a local school shooting. While most evidence points to the Sheriff’s son there are a few odd pieces that don’t add up. While it wasn’t a fairy tale ending I was kept on my toes till the very end!

Clash of Kings

I didn’t even pick this book up this week. I will make progress even if it’s just a few chapters this week!

Ross Poldark

This story is starting to drag a little. My audiobook was due back and I couldn’t renew it so I’m on the list to check it out from the library again.

Dearly Devoted Dexter

I started the audiobook this week. It’s recorded by the author which I think gives the characters a little extra something. I absolutely love Dexter. I watched almost all of the TV series (the last twoish seasons got kind of boring to me). Listening to the books you get even more of his thought process and get to hear more of his witty remarks. I will have plenty of fun quotes from this book!

Up Next

Geekerella

I received this book in a book box recently and I’ve been so excited to read it! It will be literally the next book I pick up!

Summer at Little Beach Bakery

I thought I was going to start this book earlier this week but plans changed, this week it is!

The Crown

The last book in The Selection Series. I’m interested to see how this series will wrap up. Eadlyn has been one of those characters that has some serious character growth going on and I’m excited to see the woman she becomes.

What are some of your go to Summer reads? I think I’m in the mood for some chick-lit soon. What do you recommend?

Julie and Julia

I was slightly disappointed with this book. The movie is one of my favorites so of course I thought the book would be even better. I actually didn’t realize that it was nonfiction when I started reading. I don’t think that was the problem though, there are a good bit of time jumps mid story to explain an incident then coming back to finish the story when really you’ve kind of forgotten what was going on. There was a lot less Julia as well. Overall it wasn’t a bad book but not one I’d read again.

Deja Dead

These are the books that the shows Bones is based from. I’ve heard they are quite different and I can say I definitely see those differences. With the setting in Canada and a good bit of French thrown in, at times it was slightly distracting just because I didn’t understand or know exactly where I was (there is a map in the beginning and all the French is translated but I still find it distracting). The crime and mystery were interesting and I loved that you really saw Brennan’s thought process as she went along with the investigation. Reich can also build some serious suspense. There were a few parts I found myself physically holding my breath caught up in the action. I really liked it and am excited for the next book!

The Heir

This book is the continuation of The Selection series except from Eadlyn, Maxon and America’s daughter, point of view. While I didn’t care too much for Eadlyn in the beginning by the end you are really rooting for her, talk about character transformation. While everything isn’t ‘happily ever after’ just yet I am excited to see where the next book takes her.

An Offer From a Gentleman

The Bridgerton’s are such a great family. I absolutely love them. This has been my favorite of the books so far. Who doesn’t love a Cinderella retelling? Benedict’s dry humor and sarcasm had me giggling (yes giggling) throughout the book. Sophie was a lovable character trying to do the best with what she had with a lovely dose of sarcasm mixed in. Some of my favorite scenes are when Benedict annoys and teases Sophie even so far as to make her throw things. They are absolutely adorable and perfect for each other.

Clash of Kings

I swear I am making progress. Between the intimidation of such a large book and such an in-depth complicated plot I am taking my time and thoroughly enjoying the story. Seriously it’s one of my absolute favorite worlds.

Ross Poldark

I am listening to the audio book of this one. I’ve seen the first season of the BBC show and loved it. So far the narrator is really great at telling the story and it’s been pretty close to what I remember of the show. At times it does seem to get off plot detailing too much on a minor character but usually brings it around tying everything back in even though it doesn’t feel like that tidbit was essential to the main plot. So far, I can’t say for certain if I’ll pick up the other books but I am enjoying this one.

Next In Line

Geekerella

I have wanted to read this book since I saw someone with it as an ARC. It looks absolutely adorable.

Summer At Little Beach Street Bakery

A fun light read for summer time. This is the second book in the series and I absolutely love the author Jenny Colgan

The Perfect Husband

This was a recommendation for a book similar to Criminal Minds. After reading the synopsis I am eager to read it!

I love a varity of genres and to have something of each one close by for whatever my mood strikes me. What are your top 3 genres? Comment below! I’d love to hear from you!

WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by Taking On A World Of Words. I was introduced to it by The Worn Bookmark.

The Three Ws stand for:

What did you recently finish reading?
What are you currently reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

This week has been somewhat of a lull. While I have gotten some reading done I’m juggling a few books so I haven’t finished many. I do have to brag a little. May 11th was my husband and I’s 5th anniversary!! He bought me 5 books and I am thrilled!!
The Outlandish Companion
Outlander: the 20 Anniversary Collectors Edition
Dragonfly in Amber
Frost Burned
Night Broken
We have a fun system where I keep a Pinterest board of all the books I want to own where he can see the title and cover so when he’s looking for gifts he knows exactly what I’d like. Obviously its working great!!

Recently Finished

The Bear and the Nightingale

I was really excited about this book since I haven’t read many Russian folklore and thought it sounded interesting. I cant say that I loved it though. It was pretty slow in the beginning and too many point of views throughout.

The Diamond Secret

This was a quick Once Upon A Time book, it was the tale of Anastasia. I absolutely love the Disney movie and this little retelling was almost as good. I do hate that a lot of people seem to have compared the two. Both are retellings neither completely based on fact. The book however has no magic but keeps the happily ever after ending, which if we are honest is why we read these books.

The Runaway Jury

I was listening to this audio book and just finished last night. Its really good. So many twists and games you really cant be sure how its going to end. I haven’t read many legal thrillers but John Grisham is definitely an author I will read more of! He really keeps you on your toes with uncertainty of how the end will play out in the best possible way!

Currently Reading

Clash of Kings

Still reading this one. I’ve maybe gotten through a fourth of the book. As much as I absolutely love the plots and story line I do have to take breaks with something lighter so it doesn’t become too tedious. Its just exhilarating knowing I’m reading such a good series and there are so many more books for me to enjoy!

Julie and Julia

I am not liking it. The movie was a lot better. I have less than half to read but its kind of dragging for me. The is very little Julia pieces unlike the movie where both women seemed more woven together.

Deja Dead

The show Bones is based off these books and I’ve been itching to try them out. I know to expect great differences but I’ve heard its still a great series. I’m only a few chapters in and can see some of the differences already. This Brennan seems a little more socially adapted but still quiet selfish in her reasoning. I don’t think I’ve given her enough of a chance yet. Fingers crossed that I love it.

Up Next

The Heir

Still in queue. Next book in The Selection series.

Dragonfly in Amber

I want to finish Clash of Kings before starting this one so that I can give it my full attention.

That’s my wrap up for the week! How many books do you like to read at once? Do you prefer different formats when you read more than one? Tell me in the comments!
