WWW Wednesday: Week 2 – June 2017

WWW Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by Taking On A World Of Words.

The Three W’s stand for:
What did you recently finish reading?
What are you currently reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

My boys ‘reading’ to me their favorite book while my husband cooked me a birthday breakfast.

Happy Birthday to me!! Well kind of. My birthday was actually on the 11th which is one reason I didn’t finish any books this week. Another reason being my twin toddlers got a virus starting Wednesday, after separate doctor appointments and a run around to get their medicine, they finally kicked their fevers by Friday. Thankfully in time for birthday celebrations. It wasn’t a big affair but Saturday I got to meet some friends I hadn’t seen in a very long time for a day at the beach. Then on Sunday we tried a new sushi place in downtown Savannah and came home to make Homemade Strawberry Shortcake. Overall a pretty great birthday!

Currently Reading

I feel like I have quiet a few books going on right now even though its only four. The only book I actually started this week was Dragonfly in Amber. I’m right about the halfway point I really can not express all of the feels that I get from this book. I highly recommend this series, do not let the size intimated you! The story is worth it!

“I’ll leave it to you, Sassenach,” he said dryly, “to imagine what it feels like to arrive unexpectedly in the midst of a brothel, in possession of a verra large sausage.”
Diana Gabaldon, Dragonfly in Amber

I had been listening to Ross Poldark as an audio book but it got slightly boring and was due back at the library. I have it on hold to try and finish it but so far I think I like the TV show a smidgen better. I’m also listening to the audio book The Angels’ Share. Again it was due back this weekend so it took until today for me to check it out again. I only have abut 2-3 hours left. I absolutely love J.R Ward’s series the Black Dagger Brotherhood and was hoping this series would be amazing but its only been OK. The drama and mystery are there but the romance is kind of lacking. We’ll see how I feel once I finish it.

Last but not least, Clash of Kings. I swear I will finish this book before the year is out! I doubt I’ll pick it up until I’m finished with Dragonfly in Amber though. I’m already so behind in the books it seems I have little motivation to catch up to the TV show. Who’s excited for July? This girl is!

Up Next

In order to keep from repeating myself from last weeks post I’ll tell you about some of the books I’ve recently acquired. I participated in a bookish exchange through Instagram and we mailed and received our packages this past week. My new friend Tracie had me figured out perfectly. She sent me lots of Harry Potter bookish goodies. One of them being Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay!! Gosh that is a pretty book! I’m really thrilled about it!

For my birthday present my husband gave me a nice big Barnes & Noble gift card! I ordered 7 books and 1 pre-order! So far I have only received 2 of the books ordered so I’m in contact with B&N to find out whats going on there. The first book is The Queen of the Tearling. Talk about another beautiful book! I have actually read this one but I loved it and want to reread it before continuing the series. Next is The Royal Pain. This is the second book in the series of the Alaskan Royal Family. I absolutely loved the first book I borrowed from the library and plan to buy it at some point. I’ve just been wanting to continue this fun light romantic series but my library doesn’t carry books 2 and 3. How crazy is that? So this was the perfect opportunity to pick up book 2. I’ll wait to reveal the other books as they come in.

Have you read any of these books or plan to? I’d love to chat with you about them! Happy Reading!

  1. Happy late birthday! It sounds like you enjoyed your day 🙂 I hope your twins are feeling much better! My daughter was sick last week with an ear infection and sinus infection and is on antibiotics; I didn’t think her fever would ever go away!

I couldn’t agree with you more that the Outlander series is amazing! It is so worth reading. I 1st read them when Outlander came out (book 1), so I’ve reread them a couple of times since. Jamie and Claire are just wonderful.

I’ve read Winston Graham’s Ross Poldark books except the last 3. They are a bit dry at times and slow going. The series is better as you said. I actually read them years ago before the series because the were my mom’s books! I’ve read them again since the series just to compare.

I read book 1 in JR Ward’s Bourbon King series, and I have The Angels’ Share but just haven’t gotten around to reading it. I think after you are used to reading her other books that these are kind of dull in comparison. Not bad just unexpected. I’ll read it, but it isn’t high on my list right now, lol!

I hope you enjoy The Royal Pain! It is hysterical! And yay for a Barnes and Noble gift card! I have been hoarding gift cards from Mother’s Day and my bday in February so I can buy the new summer and fall releases, lol! I figured that would get me through until Christmas and more gift cards!

    Happy Reading!

    • We think my boys had a sinus infection as well. So thankful for antibiotics. I hope your little one gets all the way better soon!

I’m the worst about reading books when they are popular. I have no idea why I do it but I subconsciously tend to lean toward older books or wait until after the hype and start reading a book or series.

My husband thinks I now have enough books for the year, he’s so silly. He finds going to the library an inconvenience and at one point just told me to buy the books I wanted. 😂😂 I worked up an approximate receipt of what that would cost. He now understands my love of the library but tries to get me gift cards when he can. 😄

      • Aww, poor things! I hate it when little ones are sick! She seems to be better although now she has a weird cough! I hate it how they have one thing and suddenly end up with another!!

There is nothing wrong with reading whatever you want when you want to! I used to be like that and just read whatever looked good at the library but then it became part of my job in the English Dept (I’m a teacher) to make sure that I’m familiar with up to date and upcoming literature. We often use some of the new release books in our 20th and 21st Century Lit classes as part of the syllabus for readings for essay prompts, analysis, etc. So, I guess for the past decade I’ve been reading a lot “newer” fiction or hype than I probably ordinarily would have. I still love books that were published years ago just as much as I do some of the new ones and some of them more so!

Oh my gosh, my husband knows now after over 20 years that I can never have enough books for a year, lol! I finally had to stop buying physical books unless it was a series I absolutely had to collect or author I was die hard about because we ran out of room for bookshelves, lol! I do love going to the library, but it can be such an inconvenience at times or I hate waiting for the book I want, lol. And I hate when I’m not done with it and it is being requested, so I can’t renew it, lol! Book gift cards are the best gift ever! Those and massage ones…
